Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov took part in the opening ceremony of the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, widely known as “Summer Davos,” held in Dalian, China, DKNews.kz reports.

The forum brought together heads of government, business leaders, investors, and experts from around the world to discuss technological transformation, investment cooperation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and new drivers of economic growth.

On the sidelines of the event, Bektenov held a series of bilateral meetings with senior international leaders, including the Prime Ministers of Mongolia and Bangladesh, as well as the President and Managing Director of the World Economic Forum.

Kazakhstan and Mongolia Focus on Trade and Technology

During talks with Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

The agenda included:

  • Trade and economic cooperation
  • Industrial partnerships
  • Mining and metallurgy
  • Transport and logistics
  • Agriculture
  • Digitalization and artificial intelligence
  • Space technologies

The leaders also reviewed progress in implementing agreements reached following the state visit of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh to Kazakhstan earlier this year.

Particular attention was paid to achieving the goal set by the heads of state to increase bilateral trade to $500 million.

Following the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

New Opportunities with Bangladesh

Bektenov also met with Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.

The discussions focused on:

  • Trade and investment
  • Transport and logistics
  • Digital transformation

During the meeting, Bektenov highlighted the reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to the Prime Minister, ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening state institutions, promoting the principle of “Law and Order,” and building a Just Kazakhstan are creating favorable conditions for economic growth and attracting investment.

Both sides expressed interest in launching new joint projects and expanding cooperation in priority sectors of the economy.

Kazakhstan Seeks Deeper Partnership with World Economic Forum

Another key meeting took place with World Economic Forum President and Managing Director Børge Brende.

The discussions focused on future cooperation in:

  • Digital transformation
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Investment attraction
  • Human capital development

Kazakhstan expressed interest in moving toward a more systematic analytical partnership with the World Economic Forum.

The parties also discussed potential cooperation through Baiterek National Managing Holding to support investment and economic development initiatives.

Improving Kazakhstan’s Investment Climate

During meetings in Dalian, Kazakhstan highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen its investment environment and attract international business.

The government continues to implement a range of measures designed to support investors and facilitate project implementation.

These include:

  • The Altyn Visa program
  • Tax incentives
  • Customs preferences
  • State support mechanisms
  • A single-window approach for investment projects

Officials noted that these initiatives are intended to improve the ease of doing business and encourage greater foreign investment into the country.

Why This Matters

The meetings held at Summer Davos demonstrate Kazakhstan’s continued efforts to strengthen economic partnerships across Asia and beyond.

Engagement with Mongolia and Bangladesh opens new opportunities for trade, investment, logistics, and technology cooperation, while deeper collaboration with the World Economic Forum could provide Kazakhstan with additional expertise and global connections in areas such as AI, innovation, and human capital development.

The discussions also underline Kazakhstan’s ambition to position itself as an attractive destination for international investment and a key participant in the global economic transformation agenda.
