Chingiz Kanapyanov has been appointed Chairman of European Equity Research Partners (EERP), an international equity research firm that produces issuer-sponsored research on listed companies across Europe, the Middle East, and other global markets, DKNews.kz reports.
The firm publishes its research openly for institutional investors worldwide, helping under-covered public companies gain professional analyst coverage that meets European standards.
The initiative is designed to improve the visibility of companies that often remain overlooked by international investment funds due to limited or nonexistent research coverage.
Addressing a Longstanding Market Gap
A shortage of analyst coverage remains one of the biggest obstacles preventing international investors from discovering promising companies in emerging markets.
The challenge intensified after the introduction of the European Union’s MiFID II regulations in 2018, which required investment funds to pay separately for research and execution services.
As a result:
- More than 300 European small and mid-cap companies reportedly lost analyst coverage altogether.
- Many listed companies across emerging markets have never received professional research.
The EU Code of Conduct for issuer-sponsored research, adopted by the European Commission in May 2026, has established a regulatory framework for this category of research.
According to the company, EERP was created specifically to operate within that new framework.
More Than Two Decades of Financial Market Experience
Kanapyanov brings over 20 years of experience in Kazakhstan’s financial sector.
During his career, he has served as:
- Diplomat
- Financial regulator
- Executive at the National Bank of Kazakhstan
- Executive at Halyk Global Markets
- Executive at ICBC Almaty
- Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Almaty
Most recently, he was the founding Chief Executive of International Trading Systems (ITS), the first multilateral trading facility licensed under the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC).
Building Regional Capital Markets
Under Kanapyanov’s leadership, ITS achieved several milestones for the region’s capital markets.
Among them:
- Launch of Central Asia’s first index ETF
- More than $36 billion in cumulative trading volume
- A record $14 billion traded in 2025 alone
- More than 1.2 million investors gained access to trading
The record trading volume in 2025 represented a seventy-fold increase compared with the previous year.
International Expertise Behind EERP
EERP has assembled an international founding team with extensive experience in global capital markets.
The company’s co-founders include:
- Ramon Pedrosa, Chief Executive Officer
- Simon Powell, former Global Head of Thematic Research at Jefferies in London
- Jason Paltrowitz, former Executive Vice President of OTC Markets in New York, where 5,000 companies from 48 countries completed dual listings during his tenure
- Carlos Pedrosa Lopez, Professor of Financial Law at the University of Valencia, who leads the firm's regulatory and academic work and serves as a participant at the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters
The leadership team combines expertise in equity research, market infrastructure, financial regulation, and international capital markets.
Expanding Access to Global Capital
Kanapyanov said the company's mission is to help quality businesses become more visible to institutional investors.
«In many markets outside the world's major financial centres, strong companies remain invisible to global capital simply because no one is covering them. Research is the missing layer. Building it openly and to professional standards is what brought me to EERP.»
Ramon Pedrosa said Kanapyanov’s experience would strengthen the firm's ability to expand into under-researched markets.
«Few people anywhere have built a securities market from the ground up the way Chingiz has. His experience opens markets for EERP that global capital has so far underestimated.»
Why This Matters
Independent, high-quality equity research is essential for helping institutional investors identify investment opportunities and allocate capital efficiently.
By focusing on companies that traditionally receive limited analyst coverage, EERP aims to improve transparency, strengthen investor confidence, and increase international visibility for businesses in emerging markets.
Kanapyanov’s appointment also highlights the growing international recognition of Kazakhstan’s financial expertise and its expanding role in the development of global capital markets.
