Thousands of prospective students across Kazakhstan will soon have just one week to secure their chance at a state-funded university education, DKNews.kz reports.
Starting July 13, applicants can submit their applications for Kazakhstan's educational grant competition entirely online through the eGov.kz portal or the eGov Mobile app. The application window will remain open until 6:00 p.m. on July 20, giving future students only eight days to complete the process.
This year's campaign comes with an important update designed to eliminate unnecessary applications and simplify the experience for graduates.
The system now checks your grant status automatically
For the first time, the online service automatically verifies whether an applicant has already received a state educational grant outside the general competition.
The verification is carried out using data from the National Testing Center. If the system detects that an applicant has already been awarded a grant through a non-competitive procedure, it immediately informs them during the application process.
This means those applicants do not need to submit another application through eGov.kz or the eGov Mobile app.
The update is expected to reduce duplicate applications and help applicants avoid unnecessary paperwork.
Preferential categories are verified automatically
Applicants eligible for preferential treatment no longer need to worry about additional manual verification at the application stage.
If an applicant belongs to a preferential category, the corresponding status is displayed during the online application process and confirmed automatically through government databases.
For everyone else, applications will be processed under the standard grant competition procedure.
How to apply online
Submitting an application takes only a few steps:
- Sign in to eGov.kz.
- Open For Citizenry → Education → Higher Education.
- Select "Award of educational grants and provision of social support to students of higher and (or) postgraduate education institutions."
- Click "Request Online."
- Fill in all required fields.
- Sign the application using any available digital signing method.
- Track the application status in your Personal Account, where updates appear in the History of Obtained Services section.
The process in the eGov Mobile application follows the same procedure.
Expect queues — but there is an easier way
Because thousands of applicants traditionally submit documents during the first and last days of the campaign, the eGov.kz portal uses an electronic queue to distribute traffic.
Instead of constantly checking the website, users can simply enable the option:
"Notify me by SMS when the queue is approaching."
Once activated, an SMS notification will be sent from 1414 to the mobile number registered in the Mobile Citizens Database. If the phone number is not registered, applicants can enter it manually before joining the queue.
Applicants are also advised not to close or refresh the browser tab while waiting, as doing so will reset their place in line.
What happens after submitting the application?
Immediately after the application is successfully submitted, applicants will receive a Certificate of Participation in the Educational Grant Competition in their Personal Account on eGov.kz.
The final results of the competition will be available no later than August 10.
Successful applicants will receive an electronic Certificate of Award of the Educational Grant in their Personal Account.
Those who are not awarded a grant will also receive an official notification explaining that the application was unsuccessful.

The online service has been implemented by the Public Services Committee of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, National Information Technologies JSC, and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For many applicants, this week could determine where they will study — and whether they will do so on a state-funded grant. With automatic eligibility checks, simplified verification and fully online submission, this year's admission campaign is designed to make the process faster, clearer and more convenient than ever before. The only thing applicants should not postpone is submitting their application before the July 20 deadline.
