Astana and Beirut are strengthening their dialogue. Trade, investment and direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries were at the center of the latest talks, DKNews.kz reports.

On August 19, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Rasul Zhumaly, met with Rana Mokaddam, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation at Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants. The sides discussed the further development of bilateral relations.

Direct business contacts take center stage

The economic part of the meeting went beyond the broader diplomatic agenda.

Kazakhstan and Lebanon discussed expanding contacts between entrepreneurs and developing trade, economic, investment and business ties. Particular attention was given to direct cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.

For companies, this is one of the most practical elements of the talks. Direct contacts can help move cooperation from diplomatic discussions toward identifying potential partners and specific areas of joint work.

At the same time, no new contracts or investment projects were announced following the meeting.

Investment agenda remains without specific projects

The sides also discussed investment cooperation separately. However, no figures, companies, sectors or timelines for potential projects were disclosed.

For now, the talks should therefore be viewed as an effort to broaden channels for economic cooperation rather than an announcement of finalized deals.

The distinction matters. Diplomatic engagement can help businesses establish contacts, but tangible results will depend on whether specific projects and agreements between companies emerge.

Kazakhstan and Lebanon to strengthen foreign ministry contacts

Political dialogue was another area of discussion.

Rasul Zhumaly and Rana Mokaddam addressed closer cooperation between the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Lebanon. The sides also considered advancing practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The specific sectors were not disclosed.

The talks in Beirut show that the bilateral agenda is increasingly incorporating an economic dimension. Alongside political dialogue, the two countries are separately focusing on investment, trade and direct business-to-business contacts.

Earlier, we covered another development in Kazakhstan–Lebanon relations: in Astana, the sides reviewed the results of the Lebanese Ambassador’s diplomatic mission and discussed further cooperation.
