President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated Austria on its National Day. On October 26, 2026, the Kazakh leader sent a telegram to Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, expressing confidence in the continued development of bilateral relations, according to the official statement from Akorda.

Tokayev extended his congratulations to both the Austrian president and the people of Austria on the national holiday, DKNews.kz reports.

He also wished Alexander Van der Bellen success in carrying out his responsibilities as head of state, and the Austrian people well-being and prosperity.

Kazakhstan reaffirms commitment to cooperation with Austria

In his congratulatory message, Tokayev expressed confidence that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Austria would continue to strengthen.

The presidential administration did not announce any new agreements or specific initiatives in connection with the telegram. The message focused on maintaining positive relations and expressing goodwill between the two countries.

Austria celebrates its National Day on October 26, commemorating the adoption of its constitutional law on permanent neutrality in 1955.

Economic ties remain an important part of the relationship

Kazakhstan and Austria cooperate in political, economic and diplomatic affairs. Their bilateral agenda also includes trade, investment and business contacts.

Economic cooperation has recently attracted particular attention. In September 2026, representatives of the two countries discussed opportunities to expand Kazakh exports to Austria, including processed industrial and agricultural products.

Kazakhstan identified an estimated $637.5 million in potential additional exports across 100 product categories. This was an assessment of possible trade opportunities, not the value of contracts signed or shipments completed.

The figures illustrate the scope for developing commercial ties alongside the political dialogue between Astana and Vienna.

What Tokayev's message means for bilateral relations

Congratulatory exchanges between heads of state are part of established diplomatic practice. They provide an opportunity to reaffirm relations and express support for continued cooperation.

In this case, the emphasis was on strengthening the existing partnership rather than announcing a new stage of negotiations.

For Kazakhstan and Austria, the broader relationship includes business engagement and cooperation through bilateral institutions.

Earlier, we reported on Kazakhstan's estimated $637.5 million export potential in Austria, highlighting opportunities to expand trade in processed goods. That economic agenda provides a practical backdrop to Tokayev's message of continued bilateral cooperation.
