Yesterday in Astana, Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Torebayev discussed with US Deputy Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago topical issues in mutual trade between the countries and measures to increase trade turnover, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

Thus, the Kazakh side expressed interest in resolving the issue of increasing the volume of exports of steel, grain and fertilizers to Iran. This will allow domestic companies not only to increase the volume of supplies, but also to expand production capacities and provide additional jobs to the population of the Karaganda region.

Kairat Torebayev suggested that the American side consider the possibility of exporting Kazakhstan's rare earth metals to the United States in more detail at the next meeting of the Informal Commercial Dialogue between Kazakhstan and the United States.

In turn, Marisa Lago noted the increased role and development of the international potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

During the meeting, the issues of the application of secondary sanctions by the United States were also discussed.

The Kazakh side, for its part, reported on the measures taken to prevent the deterioration of foreign trade indicators. So it was decided to monitor the trade of sanctioned goods in the form of monitoring their movement.

Taking into account the mechanism of movement of sanctioned goods, work is being carried out on an ongoing basis to explain to the Kazakh business the risks of applying secondary sanctions and the possibilities of re-exporting sanctioned goods.

It was noted that these lists are posted on a specially created website for the convenience of domestic business http://traderadar.kz . The site is updated on an ongoing basis, taking into account the introduction of new packages of sanctions measures of the collective West.

The US General System of Preferences (GSP) played an important role in strengthening trade and economic ties between the two countries. For more than 25 years, the Republic of Kazakhstan has been a beneficiary of this system, thanks to which it was possible to increase the volume of mutual trade.

At the end of the meeting, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Marisa Lago noted that Kazakhstan has very friendly relations with all neighboring countries and expressed the US readiness for cooperation between our countries.

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the United States in January-August 2022 increased by 36.1% and amounted to $ 1.9 billion. Today, exports amount to $865 million, imports amounted to $998.4 million.
