25 years ago, on December 10, 1997, the city of Akmola (now Astana) was declared the new capital of Kazakhstan. On the eve of this anniversary date, the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan organized a visiting lecture "Astana is a symbol of independent Kazakhstan" for pupils of the capital school-gymnasium No. 7 named after G.Ormanov, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
During the thematic lesson, the children learned about ancient settlements and the medieval settlement of Bozok on the territory of the modern capital and its environs, the foundation of the Akmola fortification and its acquisition of the status of a district city, how the city developed in the twentieth century. Special attention was given to the history of the city during the years of independence of Kazakhstan and the prerequisites for moving the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan from Almaty to Akmola.
The pupils were also in detail acquainted with the marks of formation and development of the new capital: renaming to Astana; the international presentation; building of the unique architectural constructions which have become symbols of the city and the country; carrying out of the large international economic, political and cultural events.

On December 15, it is planned to hold a similar thematic lecture for students of the Lyceum school No. 88 in Astana.
