Natalia Zhukova, Director of the Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary and Veterinary Measures of the Eurasian Economic Commission, told about the joint actions of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to protect consumer rights during the global socio-economic transformations at a meeting of the Advisory Council for Consumer Protection of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was held on December 7 via videoconference, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

"The most important factor in ensuring economic stability in the modern period is the adoption of the maximum possible measures that contribute to a reasonable balance between simplifying business conditions and preserving the opportunity for consumers to receive safe and high–quality goods and services in the EAEU market" Natalia Zhukova

She also stressed the importance of the work of the Commission and the countries of the Union to build good relations between the participants of the EAEU market, where a special place is given to initiatives of business focused on the interests of consumers.

The Commission adopted a number of recommendations for the EAEU countries that define the principles and criteria of fair business practices, as well as the feasibility of creating conditions for the development of self-regulation institutions based on self-control and prevention of consumer rights violations.

As Natalia Zhukova noted, the formation of a space of trust between business and consumers is the goal of the Program for Joint Actions of the EAEU Member States on Consumer Protection adopted in June this year.

"The program has been a key mechanism for solving strategic tasks of the development of Eurasian integration in this area. It represents a new promising format of relations that will bring together approaches and unite the efforts of countries to protect the consumer market of the Union from unsafe goods and services" Natalia Zhukova

During the event, the heads of authorized bodies and public organizations for consumer protection of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia discussed the best national practices of consumer protection, as well as consumer problems in electronic commerce. The meeting attendees have noted that one of the most important tasks under modern conditions is to maintain all existing formats of international interaction in order to develop coordinated actions and apply the best international practices in protecting consumer rights at the EAEU and the CIS venues.

The Advisory Council on Consumer Rights Protection of the CIS participating States is a body for sectoral cooperation which includes Heads of the CIS participating States' bodies authorized in the field of consumer rights protection as well as civil society organizations.

A memorandum of cooperation between the Commission and the Advisory Council on Consumer Protection of the CIS Member States was signed in 2018.
