Singapore and Kazakhstan discuss the "G4 City" project in Almaty region

A high-ranking Kazakh government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance Yerulan Zhamaubayev visited Singapore on April 13 and 14, 2023, DKNews.kz reports.

The Kazakh team included Minister of Justice Mr. Azamat Yeskarayev, Deputy Head of the Government’s Office Mr. Askar Biakhmetov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Almas Aidarov, Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Mr. Iliyas Ospanov, Vice-Minister of National Economy Mr. Baurzhan Omarbekov, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Almaty Region’s Administration, Astana International Financial Center, and the Caspian Group’s top management led by Chairman Yuriy Tskhai.

The visit’s programme was highlighted by two important G2G (government-to-government) meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr. Lawrence Wong, and Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr. Tan See Leng.

The parties exchanged views on the current status and outlooks for the Kazakh-Singapore comprehensive partnership, as both parties celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and prepare for the exchange of presidential visits during 2023-2024.

As part of his working visit to Singapore, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Mr. Yerulan Zhamaubayev held talks with top Singaporean CEOs.

The Kazakh delegation met with Mr. Dilhan Pillay, Executive Director and CEO of Temasek Holdings, Mr. Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group, and Mr. Sean Chiao, Group CEO of Surbana Jurong, to discuss the bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as the ambitious G4 City project in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan.

The G4 City is a flagship government-driven and enterprise-led initiative aimed at developing a smart, sustainable, and innovative city that can serve as a hub for business and economic activities in the region. The project is expected to create numerous business opportunities for Singaporean and other international companies, and contribute to the strengthening of economic ties between Kazakhstan and Singapore.

The meetings with the top Singaporean CEOs were highly productive, with all parties expressing strong interest in the G4 City project and exploring ways to collaborate and contribute to its success. The Kazakh delegation highlighted the many benefits of investing in the project, including the country's strategic location, vast natural resources, stable political environment, and favourable investment climate. The Singaporean CEOs emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between the public and private sectors to ensure its success.

As the two countries mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Mr. Yerulan Zhamaubayev reiterated Kazakhstan's commitment to further strengthening its economic ties with Singapore, and exploring new avenues for comprehensive partnership.

The meetings were a testament to the strong and enduring friendship between Kazakhstan and Singapore, and a reflection of the shared commitment to promote sustainable development and economic growth.
