For the first time in the CIS, a single-chamber leadless pacemaker of the new generation AVEIR was implanted at the Heart Center, DKNews.kz reports.

This capsule-like device is installed in the right ventricle of the heart to deliver electrical impulses in case of a slow heart rate. A pacemaker is inserted into the heart using a catheter fed into the femoral vein. This minimally invasive procedure significantly reduces the rehabilitation period for patients, which allows them to return to their ordinary lifestyle in a short time.

Disorders of the heart rhythm, failures in the electrical impulses of the heart, and the development of arrhythmia can significantly affect a person's health. Symptoms may manifest in frequent dizziness, weakness and loss of consciousness. In such cases, the patient may need to install a pacemaker that detects deviations, sends an electrical pulse and compensates for the lack of electrical activity of the patient's heart.

The AVEIR pacemaker has successfully passed clinical trials and is safe for the health of patients, including the possibility to conduct an MRI examination. The device can last twice as long as compared to previous designs, and can also be easily removed or replaced if necessary. Its length is 4 cm, and the shape itself resembles an ordinary battery. During a two-day master class on July 19 and 20, the clinic's specialists implanted a pacemaker in 5 patients who experienced a rare heart rhythm and had other concomitant diseases.

“The specialists of the Heart Center have been trained to install a new pacemaker in the USA and are now practicing this technology in the country to improve the quality of life of our patients. Implantation of a leadless device does not require the insertion of leads into the heart cavity, which minimizes the risks of possible postoperative complications. Also, this pacemaker can be upgraded to a two-chamber system if needed,” shared Omirbek Nuralinov, head of the interventional arrhythmology department of the clinic.
