Astana Becomes Global Hub for Mathematics with ISAAC-2025, DKnews.kz reports.

From July 21 to 25, 2025, Central Asia will become the epicenter of international mathematical research. For the first time in history, the International Congress on Analysis, Applications, and Computation ISAAC-2025 will take place in Kazakhstan, hosted by the Nazarbayev University School of Sciences and Humanities (NU SSH).

Established in 1997, the ISAAC Congress has grown into one of the most significant global platforms for mathematicians and researchers. Held every two years, it brings together young scientists and world-renowned experts to discuss the latest advancements and innovations in mathematical analysis, applied mathematics, and computational technologies. This year, the mathematics community at Nazarbayev University has the honor of organizing this prestigious event in Kazakhstan.

Countries such as the United States, Japan, Germany, Poland, China, Belgium, and Brazil have previously hosted the ISAAC Congress. As part of ISAAC-2025, nearly 1,000 scientists and researchers are set to present their work, including a Fields Medalist—often referred to as the Nobel Prize of mathematics—and the president of the International Mathematical Union, the highest administrative role in the field. The congress will feature dozens of sessions, each serving as a vibrant platform for scientific debate and the exchange of groundbreaking ideas.

"The congress will be the largest mathematics event, and possibly the largest scientific event, of this caliber ever held in Central Asia. We aim to position Kazakhstan on the global scientific map and ensure its visibility. It represents a historic achievement for our region and institution. The sessions include not only mathematical fields but also fields such as artificial intelligence, mathematical finance, mathematical biology, neural networks, and other subjects of applied math. Importantly, we are offering grants to young scientists. Science today cannot thrive in isolation—it is a collaborative effort. We've invited 100 young, talented researchers worldwide, one-third of whom are Kazakhstani mathematicians. They will live on campus, exchange ideas, and foster future collaborations that could lead to significant discoveriesDurvudkhan Suragan, the NU professor and chair of the local organizing committee

Among the keynote speakers are luminaries of the mathematical world, including Manuel Del Pino (University of Bath, UK), Hongjie Dong (Brown University, USA), Yoshikazu Giga (University of Tokyo, Japan), Martin Hairer (EPFL, Switzerland), Mete Soner (Princeton University, USA), and Carola-Bibiana Schönlieb (University of Cambridge, UK).

A key highlight of the congress will be its focus on nurturing the next generation of mathematicians. It is expected that 100 scholarships called "The Satbayev Grants" will be established to support promising young researchers from Kazakhstan. These grants aim to empower Kazakhstani scientists to pursue innovative ideas and further the development of their research.
