Kazakhstan Participated in the 10th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States in Colombia, DKnews.kz reports.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Mexica, Almurat Turganbekov, took part in the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).
The summit commemorates the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Convention Establishing the ACS, adopted in July 1994 in Cartagena, and was held under the theme: “United for Life: Towards a More Sustainable Greater Caribbean”.
During the event, participants discussed key challenges and priorities in the region, including climate change, migration, sustainable development, reform of the global financial architecture and governance system, protection of human rights, and ensuring peace and security.
On the sidelines of the summit, Ambassador Turganbekov held several meetings with the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Noemi Espinoza Madrid, and the heads of delegations from Latin American and Caribbean countries, during which issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation were discussed.
The Republic of Kazakhstan received observer status in the Association of Caribbean States in June 2016 at the 7th ACS Summit held in Havana, Cuba. Currently, the ACS unites 25 sovereign states of the region and is one of the leading subregional platforms in Latin America and the Caribbean. Along with Kazakhstan, observer countries include the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Belarus, and others.
