Kazakhstan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme Intend to Strengthen Cooperation, DKNews.kz reports.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Office in Nairobi Barlybay Sadykov met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anaclaudia Marineiro Centeno Rossbach.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and UN-Habitat, including plans to expand collaboration in the development of cities and human settlements.

It was noted that in recent years, cooperation between Kazakhstan and UN-Habitat has significantly intensified. This partnership is stimulating the development of national urban planning policies in various areas, including regulation, planning, design, and environmental protection in both urban and rural settlements.

The sides highlighted the successful holding of the first national urban forum in July 2025 in Kyzylorda, titled "Integrated Urban Transformation Starting from the Regions." The forum focused on sustainable urban development in light of climate change, the connection between cities and rural areas, and the contribution of small towns to the country's development.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to organize and hold mutual meetings that will contribute to the further development of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and UN-Habitat.

UN-Habitat (the United Nations Human Settlements Programme) is a UN agency specializing in sustainable urban development and human settlements. It was established in 1978 following the First UN Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat I), held in 1976 in Vancouver. UN-Habitat plays a key role in the global urbanization agenda, working in close collaboration with governments, local authorities, civil society, and the private sector worldwide.
