On December 10, 2025, a piano evening by Kazakh composer, pianist and researcher Rahat-Bi Abdysagin took place at the Eel Market Hall in Leiden. The concert was organized with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Netherlands and brought together members of the diaspora, musicians and lovers of classical music, DKNews.kz reports.

The event became another important step in promoting contemporary Kazakh culture in Europe.

A musician who connects art and science

Rahat-Bi Abdysagin is one of the brightest representatives of Kazakhstan’s new generation of musicians.

He is the author of two “quantum symphonies,” several innovative works, and the book Quantum Mechanics and Avant-Garde Music: Shadows of the Void.

In his music, mathematics and physics are closely intertwined. He explores the links between quantum mechanics and avant-garde composition, drawing on concepts such as uncertainty and many-worlds interpretation — returning to the ancient tradition in which music was seen as part of mathematics and harmony as something that could be discovered like a scientific law.

A journey through musical eras

The program covered three centuries of musical evolution, reinterpreted through the lens of social change and artistic search.

The final piece was one of Abdysagin’s early works, dedicated to peace and humanism – a musical appeal to humanity through the image of birds forced to migrate endlessly because of human conflicts.

From the concert hall to scientific dialogue

The concert preceded his participation in the international conference 100 Years of Spin, dedicated to the centenary of the discovery of spin in quantum mechanics.

There, Abdysagin presented his research on the intersections between avant-garde music and modern physics, continuing the dialogue between science and art that once inspired Einstein, Planck and Heisenberg.

Cultural diplomacy in action

The Embassy of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude to Leiden University, the concert hall, program partners and representatives of the Kazakh diaspora for their support.

Rahat-Bi Abdysagin’s performance showed how contemporary Kazakh art resonates in international academic and musical circles, shaping the image of Kazakhstan as a country where creativity and science grow side by side.
