Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are getting ready to launch a new transport corridor from China — one that will run around Kazakhstan, offering an alternative route for freight, DKNews.kz reports.

The project aims to cut delivery times and reduce logistics costs, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reported.

Why it matters

Today, a large share of cargo from China moves through Kazakhstan. The new route gives neighboring countries more flexibility and less dependence on a single transit path.

Core goals:

  • faster delivery
  • fewer queues at border crossings
  • lower costs for businesses

Border upgrade: the key section

Both countries plan to expand capacity at the Jartepa–Sarazm border crossing.

Plans include:

  • simplified and faster customs procedures
  • a new logistics hub in the border zone
  • capacity to handle up to 100 trucks per day

When will it start?

The pilot launch is scheduled for early January 2026.

Further expansion will depend on demand from carriers and infrastructure readiness.

What does this mean for Kazakhstan?

There are no official comments yet. But one thing is clear: competition for transit flows in Central Asia is growing.

Countries are trying to:

  • attract more cargo
  • earn more from logistics
  • reduce strategic risks

For Kazakhstan, this is a signal: the transit market is becoming more competitive — and keeping cargo flows will require more effort.
