A strategically important infrastructure project has been completed in western Kazakhstan. A new state-of-the-art chemical laboratory has been built at the Zhanazhol oil custody transfer station, part of the Alibekmola main oil pumping station operated by KazTransOil in the Aktobe region, DKNews.kz reports.
The facility is located at kilometer zero of the Zhanazhol - Kenkiyak trunk oil pipeline - a starting point that plays a critical role in the entire oil transportation chain. From here, crude oil enters the main pipeline system, making quality control at this stage especially important.
Round-the-clock control of oil quality
The new laboratory is fully equipped with modern analytical instruments and measurement devices required to perform a complete range of crude oil tests. Laboratory analyses will be conducted 24/7, ensuring continuous quality monitoring throughout oil transportation.
According to KazTransOil, around 3 million tonnes of oil per year will be tested at this site. This represents up to 70% of all crude oil supplied from oil fields in the Aktobe region. After quality confirmation, the oil is transported to domestic oil refineries and partially exported.

In practice, the laboratory becomes a key quality filter for one of the country’s most important oil transportation routes.
Designed for shift work and safety
When designing the facility, special attention was paid to the specifics of shift-based operations. The building is equipped with modern engineering infrastructure, creating safe and comfortable working conditions for laboratory personnel who operate in continuous mode.
A dedicated warehouse for storing inventory and materials has also been constructed next to the laboratory, increasing the site’s autonomy and operational reliability.
Why it matters
Early and accurate quality control reduces risks during pipeline transportation, helps prevent technical issues, and ensures stable operations at refineries. For export deliveries, consistent quality standards are also crucial for meeting contractual obligations.
Given the strategic importance of the Aktobe region as one of Kazakhstan’s key oil-producing areas, the launch of the new chemical laboratory at Zhanazhol marks more than just another infrastructure upgrade. It reflects a broader shift toward higher technological standards and stronger reliability across the country’s oil transportation system.
This new facility strengthens KazTransOil’s pipeline network and contributes directly to Kazakhstan’s energy security and long-term export stability.
