Chinese President Xi Jinping has responded to a letter from teachers and students of a U.S. youth educational delegation, highlighting the growing role of people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States, DKNews.kz reports.
In his reply dated January 7, Xi noted that more than 40,000 young Americans have already taken part in the “50,000 in Five Years” initiative since its launch. The program aims to expand educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Education as a Bridge Between Nations
The “50,000 in Five Years” initiative was introduced by China as an effort to strengthen academic and cultural ties with the United States. It provides opportunities for American students, teachers, and young professionals to visit China, participate in study programs, and engage in cultural and educational projects.
Xi emphasized that young people play a key role in shaping the future of bilateral relations, and that direct interaction and shared experiences help build understanding and trust between societies.
A Symbolic Gesture Amid Complex Relations
The letter comes at a time when relations between Beijing and Washington remain strained by political and economic disagreements. Against this backdrop, educational exchanges have remained one of the few stable channels for continued dialogue.
Analysts note that the strong participation of U.S. students reflects continued mutual interest at the societal level, despite tensions between governments.
Looking Ahead
Xi Jinping’s response was widely seen as a symbolic gesture of support for youth engagement and educational cooperation, reinforcing the idea that long-term international relations are built through education, dialogue, and human connections.
