Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Croatia Daulet Batrashev briefed members of the Croatian Parliament on the outcomes of the National Kurultai held on January 20, 2026. The meeting focused on Kazakhstan’s political reforms, parliamentary transformation, and prospects for deeper cooperation between the two countries, DKNews.kz reports.

Political modernization and civil dialogue in focus

The Kazakh diplomat outlined the key political and socioeconomic priorities set out by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Kurultai. He emphasized Kazakhstan’s firm commitment to deepening political modernization, strengthening the rule of law, developing an inclusive economy, and expanding the role of civil dialogue in public decision-making.

Croatian lawmakers were also informed about plans to transition to a unicameral parliament, the upcoming national referendum, and the creation of a new consultative body designed to bring together ethnic groups, regions, and civil society. These initiatives aim to reinforce national unity and public participation.

Croatia welcomes Kazakhstan’s reform agenda

Anđelka Salopek, head of the parliamentary group for cooperation with Kazakhstan, praised the foresight of President Tokayev and welcomed the political and economic reforms underway in the country.

She highlighted parliamentary diplomacy as a key instrument for strengthening mutual trust and building a sustainable, long-term partnership between Kazakhstan and Croatia.

From energy to artificial intelligence

The talks also covered the current state and future prospects of Kazakh-Croatian interparliamentary cooperation. Special attention was given to expanding parliamentary dialogue and exchanging legislative experience.

Beyond politics, the sides discussed practical cooperation in energy, agriculture, transport, and logistics. Digital transformation, innovation, and the application of artificial intelligence technologies in public administration and business were also identified as promising areas for partnership. Education, science, and humanitarian exchanges rounded out the broad agenda.

Invitation to Zagreb

Noting the growing role of parliamentary cooperation and the successful visit of Croatian parliamentarians to Astana in February 2025, Anđelka Salopek invited members of the Parliament of Kazakhstan to visit Zagreb later this year at a time convenient for the Kazakh side.

The meeting underscored the expanding scope of Kazakhstan-Croatia relations, with parliamentary dialogue emerging as a key driver of political trust, economic cooperation, and future-oriented partnerships.
