A solemn ceremony titled “Nazir’s life is a life of mentorship” was held at School-Lyceum No. 35 in Astana, which bears the name of Nazir Turekulov. The event was dedicated to the legacy of Nazir Turekulov — the first professional diplomat of Kazakh origin, a prominent representative of the Alash movement, and the first Ambassador of the USSR to Saudi Arabia, DKNews.kz reports.

For students and guests, the event became more than a commemorative gathering — it was a meaningful encounter with history through the life of a remarkable individual.

A bust, a museum, and living history

As part of the ceremony, a museum dedicated to Nazir Turekulov’s life and diplomatic career was officially opened. In addition, a bust of the statesman was unveiled on the school grounds.

The museum showcases key milestones of Turekulov’s career, his contribution to international diplomacy, and his role in shaping the foundations of Kazakh statehood. Through documents, photographs, and exhibits, visitors can explore his legacy not as abstract history, but as a personal and inspiring journey.

A scientific and practical conference was also held, where scholars and experts discussed the political, diplomatic, and intellectual heritage of Turekulov.

Message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Chairman of the Committee for International Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Zhetybayev, read out a congratulatory message from Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.

“Nazir Turekulov was an outstanding statesman who demonstrated the highest level of patriotism and statehood. He laid the foundations of Kazakh diplomacy on the international stage. His intellect, knowledge, responsibility to the country, and loyalty to moral principles serve as a vivid example of true patriotism for today’s younger generation,” the message said.

These words highlighted the enduring relevance of Turekulov’s legacy for modern Kazakhstan.

Diplomats, scholars, and descendants gather

The event brought together representatives of government agencies, the diplomatic corps, scholars, veterans of diplomatic service, and descendants of Nazir Turekulov.

Guests also visited a traveling exhibition organized by the Turkestan Museum titled “Nazir Turekulov: The Man Who Uplifted the Spirit of the Nation”, which offered a deeper look into his life, ideas, and historical significance.

Why it matters today

According to the organizers — representatives of the International Charitable Foundation named after Nazir Turekulov — the event gave young people a rare opportunity to see a genuine example of dedication to national interests.

Nazir Turekulov’s life story helps today’s generation better understand the origins of Kazakhstan’s diplomacy and reminds us that patriotism is not a slogan, but a lifelong responsibility to one’s country.
