The year 2025 became a turning point for Kazakhstan — a rare moment when the accumulation of events transformed into a new quality. It was not a single headline or one-off success, but a steady sequence of cultural, sporting, technological, and social achievements that gradually reshaped how the country is perceived abroad.

Kazakhstan began to be seen less as a “promising” state and more as an already established participant in the global arena. It is no coincidence that many observers started calling this period the country’s true prime era.

When the Symbol Matters More Than the Score

One of the most talked-about events of the year was a football match between Real Madrid and FC Kairat. From a purely sporting perspective, expectations were modest — the difference in experience and resources between the teams was obvious, and few anticipated a sensational result.

Yet the real importance of the match lay elsewhere. The very fact that a Kazakh club faced one of the world’s most iconic teams symbolized Kazakhstan’s integration into global sports culture. The match united fans, sparked genuine emotions, and became a moment of national pride. For many citizens, it served as a reminder that the country is capable of sharing the same stage with global giants.

Sport as a Source of Confidence

Overall, 2025 proved to be a strong year for Kazakh sport. The national team won gold in short-track speed skating, confirming its competitiveness at the international level.

Equally notable were achievements in modern and emerging disciplines. Kazakh athletes claimed victory at one of the largest breaking (breakdance) championships in Paris, demonstrating that the country is comfortable not only in traditional sports but also in contemporary global movements. During the summer, Kazakhstan hosted a major PGL Counter-Strike esports tournament, attracting international attention and reinforcing the country’s position in digital sports.

Kazakhstan Becomes a Regional Concert Hub

Music emerged as another marker of change. In 2025, Kazakhstan hosted large-scale concerts by global stars including Jennifer Lopez, Backstreet Boys, and Alan Walker. These events drew not only local audiences but also visitors from across Central Asia and neighboring regions.

What once seemed unlikely has become routine: Kazakhstan now proves its ability to host world-class performers, fill large venues, and strengthen its status as a regional cultural center.

Kazakh Music Goes Global

Kazakh artists also expanded their international presence. Dimash Kudaibergen performed in New York at Madison Square Garden, firmly cementing his global reputation.

Producer Imanbek, already a Grammy winner, returned to global music trends as his new track gained traction on TikTok. Singer Alem reached the top seven of the international vocal project Silk Way Star, while artist Yenlik became part of a new wave of Kazakh pop music appearing in European playlists.

Digital Kazakhstan on the Global Radar

In the technology sector, the Digital Bridge international forum stood out as a major milestone. It reinforced Kazakhstan’s position as a digital hub of Eurasia and a platform for discussing the future of technology. The visit of Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, attracted global media attention and highlighted Kazakhstan’s growing relevance in the tech world.

High Art and International Recognition

The year was also successful for high culture. Astana Ballet won a silver medal at an international competition in Cheonan, South Korea. Astana Opera and the Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre embarked on international tours, expanding Kazakhstan’s cultural footprint abroad.

Kazakhstan also strengthened its presence at the Cannes Film Festival, marking an important step toward global recognition of its national cinema. Throughout the year, prominent international cultural figures — including Jackie Chan and Burak Özçivit — visited the country, further underlining growing global interest.

Social Change and a New Sense of Identity

Changes extended beyond culture and sports. In 2025, the social platform Threads gained popularity among Kazakh users, becoming a space for discussions on civic identity, history, and national values. Conversations increasingly focused on independence, state symbols, and the significance of December 16, Kazakhstan’s Independence Day.

This digital dialogue contributed to a renewed sense of national identity and greater public engagement with the country’s historical narrative.

This Is Only the Beginning

Kazakhstan is now developing a dense and ambitious cultural calendar. At least five major international concerts are already planned for the coming year, including the anticipated visit of Gorillaz to Almaty.

Crucially, the achievements of 2025 are not seen as an endpoint but as a foundation. They have set the pace and direction. Even now, 2026 looks like a year of new opportunities and continued momentum.

The trajectory is clear. More to come. Forward, Kazakhstan!
