Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping mission continues to play a visible role in maintaining stability in one of the most complex regions under United Nations supervision. A delegation from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan recently carried out an inspection visit to the area of operations of the UN mission monitoring the disengagement zone on the Golan Heights. The delegation was led by the Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, Major General Mereke Köshekbayev, DKNews.kz reports.
The visit aimed to assess the conditions of service on the ground, review the performance of the Kazakh contingent, and discuss cooperation with the mission’s leadership.

Dialogue with UN command
During the visit, meetings were held with the mission’s command, focusing on the implementation of the UN mandate, the current security situation in the region, and the operational role of the Kazakh peacekeepers.
The Head of the Mission and Force Commander praised the Kazakh contingent for its professionalism, discipline, and coordinated actions. Special appreciation was expressed for the high quality with which assigned tasks are being carried out, particularly given the sensitive and unpredictable environment of the Golan Heights.

What the Kazakh contingent does on the ground
The Kazakh national contingent operates as a rapid reaction unit. This role requires constant readiness to respond to emerging risks and incidents in the mission area.

Their responsibilities include:
- conducting mobile patrols
- maintaining readiness of rapid response teams
- providing medical evacuation
- ensuring engineer and sapper escort
- performing duties at observation posts
In practice, this means Kazakh peacekeepers are involved in a wide range of activities that go far beyond routine monitoring.

Hundreds of missions in a high-risk environment
Since joining the UN mission, the Kazakh contingent has completed 675 tasks. These include more than 500 patrols, participation in training activities, neutralization of explosive hazards, escorting convoys, and the establishment of temporary observation posts.
Each of these operations is carried out in an environment where security risks remain high and where precision, discipline, and experience are critical.

139 peacekeepers representing Kazakhstan
Currently, 139 Kazakh peacekeepers are serving on the Golan Heights. Far from home, they operate in challenging climatic and security conditions, representing Kazakhstan and contributing to international peace and stability.

For Kazakhstan, participation in such missions is not only a contribution to global security, but also a valuable source of operational experience for its armed forces and a demonstration of its reliability as an international partner.

Why this mission matters
The UN mission on the Golan Heights is considered one of the most sensitive peacekeeping operations due to the fragile balance in the region. Success here depends on professionalism, restraint, and trust between all parties involved.
The positive assessment from the mission’s leadership following the inspection visit highlights a clear message: Kazakh peacekeepers are not simply present — they are actively and responsibly fulfilling their mission, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s growing reputation in international peacekeeping efforts.
