Kazakhstan is steadily expanding its engagement with African partners, placing a strong emphasis on practical cooperation and long-term partnerships. This approach was clearly reflected during a series of meetings held in Nairobi by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kenya, Barlybay Sadykov, with senior representatives of the Kenyan government and business community, DKNews.kz reports.
The Kazakh diplomat met with the Deputy Director General of the Europe and the Commonwealth Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya, Judy Njau, the Chief of Protocol of the same ministry, Severine Luyali, as well as the President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eric Rutto.

Focus on Kazakhstan’s reforms
During the meetings, Ambassador Sadykov briefed his counterparts on the large-scale constitutional changes announced in Kazakhstan. These reforms are aimed at improving the effectiveness of public administration and advancing the concept of a “Fair Kazakhstan”.
A key point highlighted during the discussions was that the proposed changes will be submitted to a nationwide referendum. This, the Kazakh side noted, reflects an emphasis on openness and broad public participation in shaping the country’s future political development.
Shared views on global issues
The dialogue was not limited to Kazakhstan’s internal transformation. The parties also exchanged views on pressing issues on the international agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation within multilateral frameworks.
Such exchanges underline the growing interest on both sides in aligning positions on global and regional challenges and strengthening coordination on international platforms.
From technology to transport and ports
A significant part of the discussions focused on expanding practical cooperation. Following the meetings, the sides agreed to strengthen collaboration across the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Priority areas include:
- information and financial technologies;
- space-related cooperation;
- transit and transport routes, including the use of Kenyan ports;
- agriculture;
- tourism;
- scientific and cultural exchanges.
Kenya’s well-developed port infrastructure was highlighted as an important opportunity for enhancing Kazakhstan’s access to African markets and for developing new transit corridors.

Expert groups and next steps
In addition, the parties agreed to continue close interaction on issues of mutual interest and outlined further joint measures to expand cooperation. Special attention will be given to work within the framework of four expert groups established by Kazakhstan and Kenya.
These groups focus on trade and investment, transport, information technology, and tourism and are seen as practical tools for turning political agreements into concrete projects.
Why this matters
Kazakhstan’s engagement with Kenya reflects a broader strategy to diversify international partnerships and deepen cooperation with fast-growing regions. For Kenya, cooperation with Kazakhstan opens new opportunities in trade, logistics, technology, and investment.
The Nairobi meetings demonstrated that both sides are interested not only in dialogue, but in building sustainable, results-oriented cooperation with a clear economic and technological focus.
