Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have confirmed their readiness to deepen strategic partnership following high-level talks in Dushanbe, DKNews.kz reports.
During his official visit, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev held negotiations with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, focusing on key areas of bilateral cooperation.

Broad agenda of cooperation
The talks covered a wide range of priority sectors shaping relations between the two countries.
Among them:
- Political and diplomatic cooperation.
- Trade, investment and economic ties.
- Water and energy partnership.
- Transport, transit and logistics development.
- Cultural and humanitarian exchange.
Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining regular contacts at high and highest levels.
Officials noted that such engagement plays a central role in coordinating positions on regional issues.
Strategic partnership reaches new level
Yermek Kosherbayev highlighted the strong personal relationship between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Emomali Rahmon and its role in strengthening cooperation.

“Developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan is an important priority for Kazakhstan. Thanks to the political will of the Heads of State, our strategic partnership has been elevated to a qualitatively new level with the signing of the historic Treaty on Allied Relations.”
For his part, Sirojiddin Muhriddin emphasized that the allied nature of relations reflects long-standing traditions of good-neighborliness and mutual respect.
Economic cooperation in focus
Trade and investment cooperation were among the key topics discussed.
The ministers noted several important indicators and priorities:
- Kazakhstan remains among Tajikistan’s top three trading partners.
- Bilateral trade exceeded 1.2 billion US dollars last year.
- Both sides aim to increase trade turnover to 2 billion US dollars.
They also discussed joint projects and measures to create favorable conditions for investors.
Special attention was given to agricultural cooperation and expanding supplies of agricultural products.
Water, energy and transit cooperation
The ministers reviewed prospects for collaboration in strategic infrastructure sectors.
Key priorities include:
- Rational and mutually beneficial use of water resources.
- Strengthening energy partnership.
- Developing transport corridors and logistics infrastructure.
Officials noted that both countries, as landlocked states, have significant transit potential connecting markets in Europe, the Caucasus and South Asia.

Coordination on regional and global issues
The talks also addressed regional security and international cooperation.
Both sides highlighted close interaction within multilateral organizations, including:
- The United Nations.
- The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
- The Commonwealth of Independent States.
- The Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The ministers reaffirmed their readiness to continue coordinating efforts on international platforms.
New cooperation program signed
Following the negotiations, the two sides signed a Cooperation Program between the foreign ministries for 2026–2028.
During his visit, Yermek Kosherbayev also took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Ismoil Somoni in Dushanbe.
