Abai’s legacy was honored in Hungary. The great Kazakh poet and thinker was commemorated during cultural events that brought together representatives of more than 27 Turkic communities, DKNews.kz reports.
Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, took part in the Great Hun-Turkic Kurultaj in Bugac and a memorial ceremony in Lakitelek during his visit to Hungary.

More than 27 Turkic communities gathered in Bugac
The three-day Great Hun-Turkic Kurultaj was organized by the Hungarian Turan Foundation.

The event brought together representatives of more than 27 Turkic communities, including participants from OTS member and observer states.
The program featured traditional sports, music, crafts and a range of cultural activities.

Kubanychbek Omuraliev expressed appreciation to Hungary and the Turan Foundation for their contribution to preserving shared historical and cultural heritage.
He also highlighted Hungary’s role as an OTS observer state in Europe and its contribution to dialogue between the Turkic World and Europe.
Abai honored at the Pantheon in Lakitelek
One of the key moments for Kazakhstan came during the memorial ceremony at the Ancestors’ Park in Lakitelek.

At the invitation of Sándor Lezsák, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lakitelek Foundation, Omuraliev laid wreaths at monuments dedicated to prominent figures of the Turkic World in the Pantheon of Peoples Related to Hungarians.

Among them was Abai Kunanbaiuly, the renowned Kazakh poet, philosopher and thinker.

The Pantheon also features monuments to Azerbaijani poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi, legendary Kyrgyz manaschi Sayakbay Karalaev, Turkish poet and Sufi thinker Yunus Emre, Uzbek poet, thinker and statesman Alisher Navoi, and Turkmen poet and philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy.

Abai stands alongside major figures of the Turkic World
For Kazakhstan, Abai’s presence in this memorial space carries a clear symbolic meaning.

His legacy is presented in Hungary alongside some of the most influential literary and intellectual figures of other Turkic peoples.
The ceremony was also attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and representatives of diplomatic missions of OTS member states accredited in Hungary.
Hungary links the Turkic World with Europe
The gathering in Bugac went beyond a cultural festival.

It brought together OTS member and observer states as well as Turkic communities living beyond Central Asia and Türkiye, reinforcing the broader cultural dimension of the organization.
