Tashkent has become a platform for regional coordination. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan identified transport, infrastructure and energy among the practical areas of cooperation that can strengthen the transit potential of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, DKNews.kz reports.
The issue was discussed during a meeting at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Tashkent between Yeraly Tugzhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, and Rashad Mammadov, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan.
Transport and Energy Move to the Forefront
The diplomats exchanged views on the current state and prospects of multilateral cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
One of the main topics was the implementation of joint infrastructure, transport and logistics, and energy projects. The sides view these areas as practical tools for strengthening the region’s transit potential.
No specific projects, investment volumes or implementation timelines were announced following the meeting. However, the agenda itself indicates the practical areas on which Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan intend to focus their cooperation in Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan Connects Two Regional Agendas
Tugzhanov and Mammadov separately emphasized the high level of strategic partnership and allied relations linking Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan with Uzbekistan.
As a result, Tashkent is becoming a convenient diplomatic platform for discussing projects that involve both Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
For Kazakhstan, such coordination is directly linked to the region’s transport logic: developing routes requires cooperation not only between one or two countries, but among several states along the entire transport chain.
This is why infrastructure and logistics, alongside energy, were placed at the center of the diplomats’ discussions.
Embassies Plan to Cooperate Beyond Economic Issues
The meeting was not limited to the transport and economic agenda. The ambassadors agreed to continue active cooperation between the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Tashkent.
Joint cultural and expert events were named among the planned formats. Such contacts allow the countries to maintain cooperation simultaneously in economic, expert and humanitarian areas.
Yeraly Tugzhanov congratulated Rashad Mammadov on the recent start of his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan and wished him success in strengthening fraternal ties. The Azerbaijani diplomat expressed gratitude for the warm reception and confirmed his readiness for close working cooperation.
The effectiveness of this dialogue will ultimately be reflected in concrete infrastructure, transport and logistics, and energy projects — the areas whose importance both ambassadors specifically highlighted during the meeting.
