In Almaty, at the site of the Central Communications Service, an online briefing was held by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zh.K. Tuimebayev. The main results and achievements of the country's leading university and plans for its further development for 2020-2022 were presented to the attention of the media, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
According to the rector, today KazNU named after Al-Farabi is the only university in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, which entered the top 200 best universities in the world. According to the QS global ranking, the university occupies 165th place, - said the head of the university. - In the national ratings, we also constantly occupy leading positions. Of course, this is due to the history of our university, the high level of competitiveness of our teachers, scientists and students. "
It was noted that the university has significant potential for solving strategic country and international tasks. In a classic multidisciplinary university that combines education, science and innovation, more than 500 research projects are carried out annually on the most important priorities of the country's scientific and technological development. The total budget of ongoing projects for grant and program-targeted financing for three years is more than 7.7 billion tenge.
KazNU is traditionally a leader in scientific articles, every fifth Kazakhstan publication in rating editions belongs to KazNU scientists. In 2020, the university was awarded three nominations for the "Leader of Science" award from the most authoritative database "Web of Science".
Scientists are also actively involved in the prevention of COVID-19. Thus, a low-tonnage production of medicines based on local plant raw materials and the production of disinfecting detergents have been organized.
Together with the British company "AVEVA Group plc", the Center for Engineering Design was created, which is the first representative office of the company in the Central Asian region.
The University, taking into account global trends, is introducing new programs. We are starting admission to programs such as: Neuroscience, Creative Industries, Digital Economy, Environmental Engineering, Media Communications, Data Science, Digital Archives and Records Management, Intelligent Control Systems, Nanomaterials and Nanochemistry.
Rector of KazNU Zh.K. Tuimebayev noted that students are always at the center of the development of the university, therefore one of the priorities is their social support.
Within the framework of social support for students, over one thousand "excellent students" and "good students" from among and socially vulnerable categories receive a discount on tuition fees from 10 to 25%. Sponsorship funds are attracted (over 50 organizations and companies) for gifted students. Material assistance is provided and students from among the orphans are provided free accommodation in hostels. Special attention is paid to the development of the university's human resources. Since March of this year, the salaries of teachers and staff have been increased by 20%. The status of teachers and their contribution to the development of the university are increasing.
The university pays great attention to the integration of teachers in the international community. At the initiative of the Head of State, the Ministry of Education and Science annually 500 Kazakh scientists will undergo foreign training. Also, the university attracted scientists of international level, such professors as Walbai Omirbayev and Bazbek Davletov, who have experience in teaching at universities in the United States and Europe, including the University of Cambridge.
More than 400 university teachers are holders of the "Best University Teacher" grant, which is 20% of the total number of grants awarded in the country.
Currently, taking into account the quarantine measures, the university is holding a number of republican and international events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. So, on May 19, the International Scientific and Practical Online Conference “O. Suleimenov - Poet and Citizen ", dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the poet. On May 31, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Political, legal and economic issues of the formation of state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan: history and modernity" was held.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the "Elbasy Park" was opened. 300 seedlings of apple, cherry, apricot, plum trees were planted on the alley of fruit trees in honor of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Since the beginning of spring, about 300 Crimean and Altai pine seedlings have been planted in the course of work on the improvement of the campus. On the Day of Science Workers, 100 saplings of Sivers apple trees were planted on the campus of the university and called the "Garden of Scientists".
