A high-level plenary meeting is taking place at the UN General Assembly Hall to commemorate and promote the International Day against Nuclear Tests, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
The plenary session was opened by the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev who in his video address stressed the value of activities to ensure global security and the efforts by Kazakhstan’s diplomacy in promoting the anti-nuclear agenda internationally.
“Thirty years ago, I signed the decree to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, one of the largest nuclear test sites in the world. It was the first legally binding ban on nuclear testing in the history of mankind. Following the nuclear test site in Semipalatinsk, a number of test sites around the world were closed or deactivated. So, we saw the effect of the ban on nuclear tests spreading worldwide,” Nursultan Nazarbayev concluded.
