The Kazakh delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi took part in the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on "Partnership for Unity, Justice and Development" which took place in Islamabad, Pakistan, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

The event was attended by delegations of the OIC member - states and observer countries, as well as international organizations. The chairmanship of the OIC Council of Ministers was officially transferred from the Republic of Niger to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Palestine, Cameroon and Yemen were elected Vice-Chairmen of the organization.

Representatives of the OIC countries exchanged views on main issues of the Middle East agenda, disarmament, countering international terrorism, combating islamophobia, xenophobia, the OIC 2025 activity program and other topics. They also discussed the development of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, transport, culture, science and technology, tourism and healthcare, information technology, water resources, environment and climate change.

In his speech on behalf of the Asian Group, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tileuberdi expressed gratitude to the OIC member states for solidarity and support towards Kazakhstan during January tragic events. He declared our country's readiness to keep contributing to the process of ensuring global and regional security. In this context, he called on Muslim Asian countries that have not joined the CICA to become members of this regional security community.

M.Tileuberdi paid attention to the importance of the Conduct Code initiated by Kazakhstan to achieve a world free from terrorism and the need to continue interfaith dialogue within the framework of the Congress of World Leaders and Traditional Religions to unite efforts in the fight against terrorism, extremism and islamophobia.

He stressed the role of the Astana process on Syria, as well as the relevance of the Kazakh initiative of Islamic reconciliation at the time of continuous conflicts and military clashes among Muslim countries. Kazakhstan Foreign Minister noted the need to complete the process of reforming the OIC as soon as possible, which is especially important in the time of new challenges.

At the end of the first day of OIC 48th session several resolutions were adopted in political, economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian, legal and organizational spheres, in which the consolidated position of Muslim countries on the main global and regional issues have been expressed. At the end of the event an adoption of Islamabad final declaration is planned. During the session M.Tleuberdi held a number of bilateral talks with Mr. Samekh Shukri, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fuad Khussein, Iraki Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mevlut Chavushoglu, Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs. The sides discussed the issues of cooperation development in bilateral and multilateral format, and also the schedules of meetings at a higher and highest levels.

The OIC (before 2011 – the Organization - Islamic Conference) was founded in 1969. The OIC General Secretariat is situated in Jidda (The Saudi Arabia Kingdom).

There are 57 member-states in OIC with the total population of 1,7 billion people and it is the second largest international organization after the UN. Five countries and five international organizations have an observer status. Kazakhstan became a member of the organization in December 1995.
