The Head of State hosted the Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto, Jacob Stausholm, DKNews.kz reports.
During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of joint investment projects in geological exploration, mining and metallurgical industries.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was briefed on Rio Tinto's plans to expand its operations in Kazakhstan. Jacob Stausholm also spoke about the progress of copper exploration projects in the Kostanai and Karaganda regions.
The President noted that our country has significant reserves of the most important minerals and raw materials that are in demand today for the development of high technologies. Kazakhstan is taking measures to increase the area of geological exploration, as well as the introduction of best international practices that contribute to significant geological discoveries.
Rio Tinto is the largest Anglo-Australian mining and metals company with a market capitalisation of $99 billion dollars. The main assets are concentrated in Australia (35%), Canada (34%), Europe (13%) and the United States (11%). The company's business segments include iron ore, aluminium, copper, bauxite, diamonds, uranium and industrial minerals.
