Kazakhstan and Pakistan step up cooperation in the IT sector

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan Yerzhan Kistafin met with the Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications (MOITT) Shaza Fatima Khawaja, DKNews.kz reports.

Chairman Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) Muhammad Zohaib Khan was also present in the meeting.

Ambassador spoke about the dynamic development of the IT sector in Kazakhstan, including public services provided in online format, advanced financial technologies in the banking sector. He specifically focused on the activities of the regional IT hub in Astana, the company «National Information Technologies» and the State Corporation «Government for Citizens».

Shaza Fatima shared Pakistani experience in the IT industry, expressing interest to intensify ties with Kazakhstan in the field of information technology and telecommunications.

The Minister noted the rapid growth of the IT sector, which currently stands at over 3 billion US dollars, while the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has set an ambitious target of increasing its share in the coming years to 15 billion US dollars.

It was proposed to create a joint working group to establish contacts between authorized bodies and IT companies of the two countries.

The parties also expressed mutual interest in establishing cooperation between universities engaged in training IT specialists.

As a result of the meeting it was agreed to organize negotiations in the nearest future.
