KazNU, which set a record for the country and took 163rd place in the world ranking, this year opened its doors to more than 7 thousand young people, DKnews.kz reports.
Of these, 5,974 students were admitted to bachelor's programmes, 771 to master's programmes and 483 to doctoral studies. Also, about 2 thousand foreign students from 39 countries entered the higher education institution.
The traditional evening was attended by state and public figures, athletes Gusman Kyrgyzbayev, Zhumagali Nurdaulet, Arina Altukhova, Azamat Dauletbekov, Konstantin Malinovsky and Yergali Alisher, who performed at the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris-2024. The event also brought together media representatives, Kazakhstani pop stars, bloggers, entrepreneurs, faculty and youth of the university.
The solemn meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebaev, who congratulated the first-year students on the beginning of the new academic year. In his speech, the Rector, based on the message of the Head of State Kasym-Jomart Tokayev to the people of Kazakhstan, reminded that students of KazNU need to strictly observe law and order. He also told young people that it is necessary to study continuously and improve knowledge to become qualified specialists.
‘In the current message, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev emphasised: ‘Law and order must reign in our society. This is a basic condition for ensuring both public and individual security’. Al-Farabi, the teacher of the East, said that knowledge without proper education is the enemy of mankind. We should not forget Bauyrzhan Momyshuly's principle: ‘Without discipline there is no nation, he who obeys discipline will not become a slave’. After all, the future of the country is in the hands of educated, aspiring to knowledge youth. As the President said: ‘We must build a society based on law and order, knowledge and pragmatism’, - said the head of the university.
The rector also noted that this year marked the 90th anniversary of the founding of the country's leading university. Today the celebration of dedication of freshmen to the ranks of students coincided with this significant date. In conclusion, Zhanseit Tuimebaev noted that with the support of the Head of State Kasym-Jomart Kemelevich the second stage of construction of the KazNU campus began.
“By the 90th anniversary of the university, construction of academic buildings and dormitories has begun. Construction of the Farabi HUB Innovation Center, Robotics and Supercomputer Center is nearing completion. This year the 3000-seat stadium, built in 1986, was overhauled and put into operation. The new stadium was reconstructed in accordance with international standards. The Omirbek Zholdasbekov Palace of Students is also being overhauled. All these works are done to ensure that young people receive quality education and become qualified specialists,” said Zhanseit Kanseituly.
Then the head of the university presented the ‘Key of Knowledge’ to the 1st year students.
Gusman Kyrgyzbayev, bronze medallist of the Paris-2024 Summer Olympics, congratulated KazNU on its 90th anniversary.
‘Happy 90th anniversary of the leading university! I also dedicate the bronze medal I won at the Olympic Games to the 90th anniversary of the university. I congratulate all first-year students on the holiday!’ - said Gusman Kyrgyzbayev.
The gala evening continued with a concert programme. The festive event ended with a colourful fireworks display.
