A passenger plane has crashed in Kazakhstan: there are survivors

A passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near Aktau: there are survivors, DKnews.kz reports.

Aktau, Kazakhstan. Early this morning, a passenger plane crashed near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. According to preliminary reports, the aircraft belonged to Azerbaijan Airlines and was flying from Baku to Grozny.

Distress signal and arrival of rescuers

Before the crash, the crew sent an emergency (distress) signal from the aircraft. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site. According to the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the following resources were involved in eliminating the consequences of the crash:

  • A personnel team of 52 people,
  • 11 units of special equipment.

Upon arrival, rescuers discovered that the aircraft was on fire and immediately began extinguishing the blaze.

Information about casualties

The exact number of people on board and details about those injured are still being clarified. Preliminary data indicate that there are survivors. Specialists from the rescue services continue to assess the damage and investigate the specific causes of the incident.

Possible causes of the crash

The exact causes of the incident are currently unknown. During the investigation, experts will examine the aircraft’s technical condition and analyze the flight recorders (if they have been preserved). Official authorities have stated that detailed information will be released only after the investigation is complete.

The crashed plane belonged to Azerbaijan Airlines, the national carrier of Azerbaijan. Representatives of the airline have not yet provided an official statement.
