The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO and other international organizations in Paris, Askar Abdrakhmanov, held a meeting with Anthony Donnellan, Director of the Bureau of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), DKnews.kz reports.
The head of the intergovernmental organization, which currently includes 131 Member States and Observers, thanked the Republic of Kazakhstan for its active role in the global metrology community and for its consistent support on the international stage – notably, through elevating the status of World Metrology Day within the UNESCO system.
The Kazakh diplomat reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting continued constructive collaboration among metrology professionals from around the world in this field, which is crucial to national economic development.
In this context, the parties discussed Kazakhstan’s upcoming participation in the 17th OIML Conference that is the highest governing body of the intergovernmental organization, to be held in Paris in October 2025.
The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) was established in 1955 under the Convention creating the organization. It currently comprises 65 Member States (including the Kazakhstan) and 66 Observing States. The OIML’s main goal is the harmonization of legal metrology procedures applied by various countries. It provides metrological guidance for developing national and regional requirements concerning the manufacturing and use of measuring instruments in fields such as trade, healthcare, environmental protection, customs control, postal services, workplace and transport safety, and many others.
