On August 8, in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, the official world premiere of the “Kazakh Tazy” breed took place as part of the World Dog Show 2025, held under the auspices of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), DKNews.kz reports.
The Kazakh delegation was represented by eight Tazys, selected according to strict criteria and trained for participation in international competitions. Among 25,000 dogs from all over the world, our dogs performed for the first time as an independent breed recognized by the FCI.
The results were remarkable: five Kazakh Tazys won prizes in their rings. The title of “Junior World Champion 2025” went to Tamerlan, “World Champion” to Lashyn, “World Champion (Female)” to Aru, “Vice World Champion” to Kökşerek, and “Vice World Champion (Female)” to Pana.
In addition, Lashyn and Aru were awarded the title of “Champion of Finland” in their respective categories.
Kazakhstan’s presentation attracted great interest from participants and visitors of the exhibition. The country’s pavilion, designed in the style of a half-yurt with national elements, became one of the event’s most popular spots. Guests took photos with the dogs, learned about the breed’s history and characteristics.
Kazakh experts from the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan spoke about the Tazy’s origins, its distinctive traits, unique working qualities, and why it is considered a national treasure — one of the Seven Treasures of the Kazakh people.
The preservation and promotion of the Tazy is being carried out on the instructions of the Head of State and, since August 2022, has been under the patronage of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, extensive work has been carried out jointly with the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan:
- In August 2023, the UCK became a full member of the FCI and gained the right to represent national breeds.
- In May 2024, a single-breed show was held in Astana, during which the FCI commission examined 100 Tazys.
- On September 3, 2024, in Amsterdam, a decision was made on the provisional recognition of the “Kazakh Tazy” breed and the assignment to Kazakhstan of the status of breed standard holder.
Full recognition is expected no earlier than 2034, provided that the breed continues to develop and actively participate in international competitions. The performance at the World Dog Show 2025 and the official presentation of the Tazy in Helsinki became important steps on this path.
