During a working visit, Kazakhstan’s Consul General in Xi’an, Zhoshykhan Kyraubaev, met with Ms. Wang Wen, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. The parties discussed key areas aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, DKNews.kz reports.

Economy, transport and energy in focus
Special attention was given to expanding trade and economic ties, attracting investment and developing transit and transport infrastructure. They also discussed:
- cooperation in mining and energy
- cultural projects and higher education
- vocational training and industrial know-how

The Consul General stressed the importance of drafting a comprehensive 2026 action plan to make cooperation more consistent and mutually beneficial.
Chongqing University of Science and Technology: research and exchanges
Kyraubaev also met with Zhao Mingze, President of Chongqing University of Science and Technology, and attended the closing ceremony of a professional training program on new materials for specialists from Central Asia.

The 30-day program brought together 20 participants, including 12 from Kazakhstan.
The university highlighted:
- academic programs and research achievements
- active partnerships with Kazakh universities
- interest in expanding joint projects and exchanges
They discussed deepening cooperation in oil and gas, new materials, artificial intelligence and practice-oriented education.

Kazakhstan as a bridge for knowledge and technology
The Consul General outlined Kazakhstan’s higher education landscape and workforce needs, noting the consulate’s readiness to act as a bridge between universities and industry - in research, waste-to-energy technologies and academic exchanges.

“Chongqing Hub Port”: logistics of the future
Another key part of the visit was the “Chongqing Hub Port” industrial park, part of China’s major national strategies and the Western Land-Sea New Corridor.

Covering 17.4 sq km, the park focuses on:
- metallurgical equipment
- agricultural and general machinery
- shipbuilding
- photovoltaic technologies
- logistics and supply chains
The multimodal system - water, road and rail - provides capacity of up to 20 million tons a year.
New transit potential and access to ASEAN markets
Talks also covered strengthening Eurasian transit corridors, developing multimodal hubs and digital corridors, and exploring the idea of a dry port in Chongqing. The proposal was welcomed, and both sides agreed to study it further.
