If humanity had a ready-made formula for longevity, life would be simple, DKNews.kz reports.
Nobel Prizes. Global fame. Millions of people lining up to live longer.
But there is no such recipe yet.

Still, as psychologist and professor at Pirogov University Vera Nikishina notes, science points to things we often overlook.
The strongest candidate for longevity - homeostasis
Among dozens of theories, one concept stands out — homeostasis.
In simple terms, it means balance.
A state where:
- nothing is lacking
- nothing is excessive
- the system is neither overstrained nor depleted
And this applies to both body and mind.
Too much — harmful. Too little — also harmful.
- too much stress - bad
- too much passivity - also bad
Homeostasis isn’t just “not being sick.” It’s the body’s built-in program to live long and steadily.
Longevity without quality of life doesn’t make sense
One simple truth:
living long doesn’t automatically mean living well.
If there is little joy and meaning, years themselves don’t help.
Quality of life is shaped not by money or pills — but by higher emotions:
- inspiration
- admiration
- respect
- friendliness
- belonging
They don’t guarantee extra years. But they make life worth living.
The “laziness program” - enemy or protection?
A paradox: laziness is built into our psyche.
It helps us:
- save energy
- avoid burnout
- stay in balance
In small doses — it’s useful.
But when laziness becomes a lifestyle:
- apathy
- indifference
- loss of interest
- feeling of meaninglessness
quality of life — and sometimes lifespan — declines.
The opposite extreme is also dangerous:
- endless activity
- constant pressure to “do more”
- trying to keep up with everything
This also breaks balance and harms health.
Sport: dose matters more than heroism
Doctors and psychologists agree: movement is good.
But not all movement.
Helpful:
- varied activity
- enjoyment
- emotional engagement
Risky:
- overload
- monotonous exhausting workouts
- “push through pain” ideology
Once sport becomes punishment, it stops being a factor of longevity.
Bottom line: longevity starts with balance, not with pills
Longevity is not magic.
It’s about:
- balance between rest and effort
- emotional richness
- movement without extremes
- reasonable rest
- self-care
And - homeostasis as an inner point of equilibrium.
There’s no final “secret” yet. But we know the direction.
