Kazakhstan and South Korea are giving new momentum to their bilateral dialogue in transport, logistics and urban development. In Seoul, Ambassador of Kazakhstan Nurgali Arystanov paid a call on Maeng Seong-gyu, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and Chair of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, DKNews.kz reports.
The meeting focused on prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, which remains one of the strategic priorities of the policy pursued by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Both sides emphasized the importance of developing modern transport corridors, improving connectivity and strengthening logistics chains amid growing regional and global trade flows.

Alatau Smart City as a flagship project
A separate part of the discussion was devoted to cooperation in the development of the Alatau Smart City. The project is seen as a key platform for introducing advanced urban planning solutions, smart infrastructure and sustainable development practices in Kazakhstan.
In this context, special attention was given to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2025 between the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, the state fund Alatau City Authority, and the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND). The document lays the groundwork for practical cooperation in infrastructure development, urban planning and the application of smart technologies, drawing on South Korea’s extensive expertise in these areas.

Expanding dialogue and people-to-people ties
During the meeting, Ambassador Arystanov invited Maeng Seong-gyu to visit Kazakhstan to take part in international events scheduled to be held in Astana. Such visits are expected to further strengthen interparliamentary dialogue and deepen political and economic contacts between the two countries.
Overall, the sides noted the positive dynamics in bilateral relations, including growing tourism and business exchanges. A significant role in this process is being played by the expansion of direct air connections between Kazakhstan and South Korea. Regular flights operated by Air Astana, SCAT Airlines, Asiana Airlines and Eastar Jet have made travel more accessible, contributing to closer ties between the two nations.
Looking ahead
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed interest in continuing constructive dialogue and expanding cooperation in transport, logistics and smart urban development. In Astana and Seoul, there is growing confidence that practical joint projects and enhanced connectivity will further strengthen Kazakhstan–South Korea relations and open up new opportunities for economic growth and partnership.
