Parliamentarians from Kazakhstan and Andorra held an online meeting to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations, as well as ways to intensify cooperation between their legislative bodies, DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting carried special symbolic significance as it took place in the year marking 18 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The participants highlighted the steady and constructive development of Kazakh–Andorran cooperation over the years and noted that interaction has already been established across a number of areas.

Parliamentary ties as a key cooperation tool

During the discussions, both sides agreed that inter-parliamentary relations serve as an important mechanism for strengthening bilateral ties and deepening political dialogue. Particular attention was paid to:

  • mutual support for initiatives within international and inter-parliamentary organizations,
  • exchange of experience in legislative work,
  • identifying new, promising areas for further cooperation.

The parliamentarians expressed readiness to continue developing these areas in a pragmatic and forward-looking manner.

Kazakhstan shares reform agenda

In this context, the Kazakh delegation briefed their Andorran counterparts on ongoing political and socio-economic reforms in Kazakhstan. Special focus was given to the constitutional reform and plans for a transition to a unicameral parliament, which are aimed at modernizing governance and enhancing the effectiveness of representative institutions.

The Andorran side showed interest in Kazakhstan’s reform agenda and emphasized the value of dialogue and experience-sharing amid evolving global challenges.

Commitment to continued dialogue

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue and continue coordination on both bilateral and multilateral agendas. Participants noted that sustained parliamentary engagement provides a solid foundation for further strengthening relations between Kazakhstan and Andorra.

Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Andorra were established on January 30, 2008.
