Almaty Management University (AlmaU) has received major international recognition by joining the PRME Champions Cohort 2026–2027, a global community of universities and business schools recognized as leaders in responsible management education. Notably, AlmaU became the only higher education institution from the region to be included in this prestigious group, DKNews.kz reports.
This achievement places the Kazakhstani university among a select circle of institutions shaping the future of business and leadership education worldwide.
What is PRME Champions and why is it important?
The PRME Champion status is awarded under the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative of the UN Global Compact. It is granted to universities that demonstrate long-term, systematic results in integrating ethics, sustainability and social responsibility into education, research and institutional development.
In other words, this is not about isolated courses or declarations. PRME Champions are universities where responsible management principles are embedded into strategy, governance, teaching and academic culture.
Why AlmaU was selected
Universities are selected for PRME Champions based on seven core principles of responsible management education:
- Purpose
- Values
- Teaching
- Research
- Partnership
- Practice
- Sharing
According to PRME, all seven principles are fully integrated into AlmaU’s strategy and daily operations. The university has consistently focused on developing responsible managerial thinking and aligning education with real social and economic challenges.
Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
AlmaU’s inclusion in the PRME Champions Cohort confirms that its strategic direction aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the broader global sustainability agenda.
This recognition reflects the university’s long-term work in building educational and institutional practices aimed at lasting socio-economic impact, rather than short-term results.
New global opportunities
Participation in the PRME Champions Cohort opens new doors for AlmaU:
- expanded international academic collaboration
- joint research and educational projects
- deeper integration into the global network of leading management and business schools
Over the course of 2026–2027, AlmaU will actively take part in international PRME Champions working groups, exchange best practices with global peers and adopt advanced approaches in responsible leadership education.
Why this matters for the region
AlmaU’s status as the only university from the region in the PRME Champions Cohort strengthens Kazakhstan’s visibility on the global education map. It signals that the region is not only participating in international academic discussions, but also contributing to the evolution of responsible management and leadership education.
Looking ahead
PRME Champion status is not a final destination, but a responsibility. AlmaU now joins a global conversation on how future leaders should be educated in a world facing complex economic, social and environmental challenges.
By entering this elite international community, AlmaU positions itself not just as a regional leader, but as an active contributor to shaping the future of responsible management education worldwide.
