Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Slovak Republic Zhanna Saginova met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment of Slovakia Tomáš Taraba to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation in environmental protection and water resources management, DKNews.kz reports.
The meeting highlighted a shared interest in deepening Kazakh–Slovak engagement at a time when climate change and sustainable resource management are becoming key global priorities.
Focus on environment and water resources
During the talks, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in environmental protection and the management of water resources. These areas were identified as strategically important for long-term sustainable development in both countries.
The parties also discussed the continued expansion of the bilateral legal and contractual framework, which is expected to provide a stronger foundation for practical cooperation and joint initiatives.
Climate change at the center of discussions
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The interlocutors noted that climate-related challenges increasingly affect water security, ecosystems and economic stability, making international coordination especially important.
In this context, exchanging experience and developing joint approaches were seen as key elements of effective climate action.
Invitation to the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana
As part of the meeting, Ambassador Zhanna Saginova handed Tomáš Taraba an official invitation to participate in the Regional Environmental Summit, which will take place in Astana on 22–24 April.
It was emphasized that the summit will serve as an important international platform for discussing pressing environmental and climate issues, as well as for developing coordinated responses to climate change in the Central Asian region.
Agreement to deepen cooperation
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further deepen cooperation in the identified priority areas. The dialogue is expected to continue, with a focus on turning shared interests into concrete projects and long-term partnerships.
