Kazakhstan’s low-cost carrier FlyArystan has announced a change that many frequent flyers have been waiting for. Starting from 1 March 2026, passengers will be allowed to carry up to 7 kilograms of free hand baggage, instead of the current 5 kg limit. The size requirements remain the same at 56×23×36 cm, DKNews.kz reports.
At first glance, two extra kilograms may not seem dramatic. But for a low-cost airline, this is a meaningful adjustment that can make short trips noticeably more comfortable. For many passengers, it means fewer compromises when packing and less need to pay for checked baggage on quick getaways or business trips.
Why the airline made the change
According to FlyArystan, the decision followed a comprehensive business and market analysis. The airline reviewed passenger demand patterns, operational processes and the practices of other carriers. In simple terms, FlyArystan looked closely at how its customers actually travel — and adapted its rules accordingly.
Airline statistics for 2024–2025 show that around three out of four FlyArystan passengers flew using only minimal hand baggage. This insight played a key role in the decision to increase the allowance, as it directly reflects real passenger behavior rather than theoretical assumptions.
When the new rules apply
The updated hand baggage allowance comes into force on 1 March 2026 and applies to all flights operated from that date onward. Importantly, the date of ticket purchase does not matter. If your flight departs on or after 1 March 2026, the 7 kg limit will apply.
Flights operated up to and including 28 February 2026 will continue to follow the existing rules, with a free hand baggage allowance of up to 5 kg per passenger.
One bag — still one bag
FlyArystan is keeping its one-piece concept unchanged. Passengers are still allowed to bring only one item of hand baggage, which must meet both the weight and size limits. Additional bags or personal items beyond this allowance will still require the purchase of extra services.
This approach helps the airline maintain quick boarding processes and efficient cabin operations — a cornerstone of the low-cost model.
Low-cost philosophy stays the same
The airline stresses that its core low-cost principles remain intact. Passengers continue to build the final price of their journey themselves by choosing only the additional services they need, such as checked baggage, seat selection or other extras.
In this sense, the increased hand baggage allowance is not a shift away from the low-cost model, but rather a targeted improvement designed to better match passenger expectations.
For many travelers, small changes like this can significantly improve the flying experience. And for FlyArystan, it appears to be a calculated move to strengthen passenger loyalty while staying true to its budget-friendly DNA.
