During an official visit to Washington, DC, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, marking another important step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting reflected the growing intensity of political dialogue between Kazakhstan and the United States and underscored the shared interest in deepening cooperation across a broad range of strategic areas, DKNews.kz reports.
From politics and economy to global security
During the talks, the sides engaged in a detailed discussion of a wide range of topical issues on the bilateral agenda. Particular attention was given to political and economic cooperation, the development of trade and investment ties, and collaboration in the fields of energy and critical minerals. The parties also exchanged views on regional and global security matters, emphasizing the importance of coordinated approaches in an increasingly complex international environment.
Kazakhstan’s role in global supply chains featured prominently in the discussions. The Foreign Minister underscored the country’s strategic importance in ensuring the resilience of global supply chains for energy resources and critical minerals, noting that cooperation in this sphere has become one of the key pillars of engagement with the United States.
Enhanced Strategic Partnership and new initiatives
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to the continued development of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States. In this context, particular attention was paid to the U.S. initiative to establish a Peace Council, as well as to Kazakhstan’s participation in this format as a founding country.
The sides also discussed preparations for Kazakhstan’s participation in the G20 Summit, scheduled to take place in December 2026 in Miami. This upcoming summit was highlighted as an important platform for advancing Kazakhstan’s international agenda and contributing to discussions on global economic and security challenges.
Investments and concrete outcomes
Special attention during the meeting was devoted to the implementation of previously reached agreements and investment projects totaling approximately 17 billion US dollars. These projects were agreed following the visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Washington, DC, and the “C5+1” Summit, and are seen as a tangible foundation for long-term economic cooperation.
The focus on implementation signaled a shared intention to move beyond declarations and ensure that bilateral cooperation delivers concrete results for both sides.
Mutual trust and future momentum
For his part, Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau described Kazakhstan as a reliable partner in Central Asia and on the international stage. He expressed confidence that forthcoming contacts would provide additional momentum to the development of bilateral relations and expand practical cooperation in priority areas.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral engagement within existing cooperation formats, as well as through the launch of new mechanisms and initiatives. The Washington talks demonstrated that Kazakhstan and the United States are committed to building a forward-looking partnership based on mutual trust, strategic interests, and long-term cooperation.
