Kazakhstan is steadily strengthening its position on the global digital agenda. In Kuwait City, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kuwait Yerzhan Yelekeyev took part in the 5th General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization and the International Digital Cooperation Forum together with a delegation from the Ministry of AI and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, DKNews.kz reports.

The events brought together ministers and senior officials responsible for digitalization and information technologies, turning Kuwait into a key platform for discussions on the future of the digital economy.

Kazakhstan among global leaders in e-government

Speaking at a thematic panel on the future of the digital economy, the Kazakh diplomat presented the tangible results of Kazakhstan’s digital transformation. Particular attention was drawn to international rankings that reflect the country’s progress.

According to the UN E-Government Development Index 2024, Kazakhstan ranks 24th among 193 countries worldwide and is included in the group of states with a very high level of e-government development. At the same time, the country ranks 10th globally in terms of online public services.

These figures, experts note, demonstrate that digital reforms in Kazakhstan are delivering measurable outcomes rather than remaining purely declarative.

Digitalization as economic infrastructure

In his remarks, Ambassador Yelekeyev emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategic view of digitalization as a core element of economic infrastructure and a key driver of national competitiveness. Digital technologies are increasingly seen as the foundation for efficient governance, business development, and improved quality of life.

Participants of the forum were briefed on measures aimed at developing a platform-based e-government model, introducing proactive public services, and expanding digital solutions for both citizens and businesses. The focus, as highlighted, is on convenience, speed, and minimizing bureaucratic barriers.

Artificial intelligence and long-term transformation

Special attention was also given to the comprehensive three-year accelerated digital transformation program being implemented on the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The program includes the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure, construction of data centers, expansion of computing capacity, and systematic workforce training.

Kazakhstan views artificial intelligence as one of the main engines of future growth and is investing in both technological infrastructure and human capital to secure long-term results.

Readiness for international cooperation

During the discussions, Kazakhstan confirmed its readiness to share practical experience with DCO member states in the fields of e-government, artificial intelligence, digital services, and cybersecurity. This openness to cooperation reflects the country’s ambition not only to adopt best practices, but also to contribute its own solutions to the global digital ecosystem.

On the sidelines of the events, the issue of Kazakhstan’s possible accession to the Digital Cooperation Organization was also discussed. Observers note that participation in DCO activities represents an important step toward strengthening international partnerships in digitalization and promoting Kazakhstan’s technological development experience at the global level.

The Digital Cooperation Organization currently unites 16 member states and serves as one of the key international platforms for advancing the digital economy and technological cooperation. Kazakhstan’s active engagement at the forum signaled that the country intends to play a visible role in shaping the digital future beyond its borders.
