Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev held a meeting with the heads of United Nations agencies operating in the country, focusing on sustainable development priorities and regional initiatives, DKNews.kz reports.
The talks reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s strong commitment to multilateral cooperation and the central role of the UN system in addressing global and regional challenges.
Commitment to the UN and international stability
In his remarks, Kosherbayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s consistent support for the UN Charter and the Organization’s leading role in maintaining:
- International peace and security
- Sustainable development
- Multilateral dialogue
He also briefed UN representatives on the key provisions of Kazakhstan’s ongoing constitutional reform.

“The reform is systemic and long-term in nature, aimed at strengthening the rule of law, enhancing political stability and expanding the rights and freedoms of citizens,” the Minister noted.
Kosherbayev added that the final decision on the proposed amendments to the Constitution will be made through a nationwide referendum scheduled for March 15.
Cooperation framework for 2026–2030
During the meeting, participants discussed priority areas of the upcoming Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development for 2026–2030.
The UN Country Team presented its plans for the next phase of partnership and proposals aimed at expanding collaboration across key sectors.
Regional initiatives in focus
Particular attention was given to the development of the UN Regional Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, located in Almaty.
Kosherbayev stressed the importance of the initiative:
“The Centre is Kazakhstan’s practical contribution to strengthening the Organization’s field presence and promoting multilateral engagement in the region.”
The Minister also thanked UN agencies for their involvement in preparing the Regional Ecological Summit scheduled for April 22–24.
During the summit, Kazakhstan plans to launch international consultations on the initiative proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish an International Water Organization within the UN system.

Digital transformation and regional innovation
In the context of Kazakhstan’s digital transformation agenda, the meeting highlighted the importance of establishing the UN ESCAP Asian and Pacific Digital Solutions Centre for Sustainable Development in Almaty.
The initiative is expected to strengthen regional cooperation in digital innovation and sustainable development solutions.
Deepening practical cooperation
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in:
- Expanding practical cooperation
- Enhancing coordination between UN agencies and national institutions
- Advancing joint initiatives for sustainable development
The meeting demonstrated Kazakhstan’s continued commitment to active engagement with the UN system and to promoting regional cooperation through multilateral platforms.
