Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Armenia Bolat Imanbayev met with Armenia’s Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan to review key issues on the regional and global environmental agenda, DKNews.kz reports.
The talks focused on climate policy, water security, and strengthening cooperation in sustainable development.
Regional Ecological Summit in focus
Particular attention was given to the upcoming Regional Ecological Summit scheduled to take place in Astana this April.

The meeting was described as an important platform aimed at consolidating the efforts of regional states in addressing environmental challenges.
Key priorities of the summit include:
- climate policy coordination
- water security initiatives

- regional environmental cooperation
It was noted that the outcomes of the Astana summit could contribute to substantive preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Yerevan in October.
Water security as a global priority
Sustainable water resource management occupied a central place in the discussions.

The parties reviewed the initiative put forward by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the United Nations.
The proposal aims to:
- strengthen coordination among states on water security
- develop effective mechanisms for rational water use
- promote sustainable management of transboundary water resources
- enhance international cooperation in this field
Officials noted that water issues remain among the most pressing challenges on the global agenda.
Expanding practical cooperation
The sides also discussed practical steps to deepen collaboration between Kazakhstan and Armenia in environmental protection.
Areas of potential cooperation include:
- expert exchanges
- implementation of joint environmental programs
- sharing best practices in ecosystem preservation
- biodiversity protection initiatives
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their readiness to maintain regular dialogue and further develop cooperation in ensuring environmental sustainability.
Analysts say such engagement reflects the growing importance of environmental diplomacy as countries seek coordinated solutions to climate and water challenges.
