Kazakhstan and Austria have defined new approaches to cooperation in transport and logistics, with a focus on strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia, DKNews.kz reports.
The discussion took place during a business lunch in Austria, attended by Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Mukhtar Tileuberdi and representatives of Austrian business circles.
Focus on the Middle Corridor
A key topic of the meeting was the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor.
Ambassador Tileuberdi emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategic priorities:
- development of multimodal transport solutions
- implementation of green logistics practices
- повышение эффективности транзитных маршрутов
Participants were presented with Kazakhstan’s initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of the corridor and reinforcing the country’s role as a major transit hub in Eurasia.

Launch of a new connectivity platform
The event also highlighted the launch of the Austrian-Kazakh Connectivity Platform (AKCP), designed as a practical mechanism for joint cooperation.
The platform is expected to support:
- development of infrastructure projects
- expansion of logistics networks
- coordination between business communities
- implementation of joint investment initiatives
Reforms and investment climate
During his remarks, Mukhtar Tileuberdi also briefed participants on the outcomes of Kazakhstan’s national referendum and the adoption of the new Constitution.
He noted that reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev are aimed at:
- increasing accountability of state institutions
- improving transparency
- creating a more attractive investment environment
Austrian interest in long-term partnership
The Guest of Honor at the event, Peter Haubner, Second President of the National Council of the Austrian Parliament, shared insights from his visit to Astana in November 2025.

He confirmed Austria’s interest in expanding cooperation in several key areas:
- sustainable infrastructure
- logistics and transport
- digitalization
- energy
Kazakhstan’s transit potential
Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Lower Austria Alexander Schierchuber presented an overview of Kazakhstan’s transport sector.
He highlighted the country’s growing importance as a link between Europe and Asia and its strong transit potential within Eurasian corridors.
According to him, the AKCP platform will help translate this potential into concrete projects and partnerships.
Why this matters
The emerging cooperation between Kazakhstan and Austria reflects broader global shifts in trade and logistics.

Key implications include:
- strengthening the Middle Corridor as an alternative trade route
- diversification of transport links between Europe and Asia
- attraction of European investment into Kazakhstan’s infrastructure
- promotion of sustainable and digital logistics solutions
As global supply chains continue to evolve, Kazakhstan’s role as a transit hub is becoming increasingly important — and partnerships like this help turn strategic positioning into practical results.
