An ambitious new project to establish the Energy Astana Eco-Park in Kazakhstan's capital has officially begun. The agreement for the construction and operation of the eco-park was signed by key representatives of the Kazakh government and the Chinese company EAST HOPE, DKNews.kz reports.
Key Players in the Project
The signing ceremony took place between Gabidulla Ospankulov, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, and Quanyuan Peng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAST HOPE, a leading Chinese company in the environmental and energy sectors.
Project Details and Timeline
The Energy Astana Eco-Park is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2029. The first phase of the eco-park will be focused on waste processing and energy generation:
- The eco-park will process approximately 1,500 tons of waste daily.
- It will generate around 50 MW of electricity from the processed waste.
This innovative facility aims to provide a sustainable solution to waste management and contribute to the country’s energy needs.
Job Creation and Economic Impact
The development of the eco-park is expected to create significant employment opportunities for the local population. The first phase alone will provide:
- 250 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
- 125 permanent jobs once the eco-park becomes fully operational.
This initiative aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to promote environmental sustainability and economic growth through the creation of green energy solutions.
Emphasizing Technological and Environmental Responsibility
Gabidulla Ospankulov, during the signing ceremony, emphasized the importance of projects like the Energy Astana Eco-Park, stating that such initiatives are crucial for Kazakhstan's future:
- “It is important to implement projects of this scale that meet modern technological and environmental requirements.”
The eco-park will not only address waste management but also play a significant role in reducing the environmental impact through clean energy production.
Future Prospects
The Energy Astana Eco-Park is expected to serve as a model for sustainable development in Kazakhstan and the wider region. Its integration of modern technology and commitment to environmental standards make it a key project for the country's green future.
