Kazakhstan and Iran are looking to strengthen cooperation at a time when new trade routes and geopolitical tensions are reshaping Eurasia, DKNews.kz reports.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakaev held a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Ali Akbar Jowkar. The talks focused on trade, logistics, regional stability and future cooperation between the two countries.
What the sides discussed
According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, the diplomats reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and confirmed their readiness to continue implementing previously reached agreements.
Particular attention was paid to:
- trade and economic cooperation;
- transport and logistics projects;
- regional and international security issues;
- maintaining active political dialogue.
The meeting also touched on the situation in the Middle East, which remains one of the key topics on the international agenda.
Why this matters now
The переговоры come amid growing interest in alternative trade corridors connecting Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
For Kazakhstan, Iran is strategically important as a gateway to the Persian Gulf and Middle Eastern markets. For Tehran, partnership with Astana opens additional opportunities in Central Asia and the Caspian region.
Experts note that both countries are increasingly interested in developing transport routes that can reduce dependence on traditional logistics chains.
Focus on transport corridors
One of the major areas of cooperation remains transport and logistics.
Kazakhstan and Iran have repeatedly expressed support for developing the International North-South Transport Corridor — a route that connects Asian markets with Europe through Iran and the Caspian region.
Against the backdrop of global instability and changing supply chains, such projects are becoming more important for regional economies.
Kazakhstan strengthens its regional role
Astana continues to position itself as one of the key diplomatic players in Central Asia.
Kazakhstan traditionally supports dialogue-based diplomacy and actively develops ties with countries in the Middle East, China, Europe and neighboring Asian states.
The meeting between Bakaev and Jowkar once again highlights Kazakhstan’s growing role in regional cooperation and international logistics initiatives.
What’s next
Analysts believe cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran could intensify further in the coming years, especially in trade, transit and infrastructure projects.
As global competition for new transport routes increases, Central Asia is gradually turning into one of the most strategically important regions for international connectivity.
