Kazakhstan took part in a high-level international conference in Dushanbe marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), DKNews.kz reports.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermukhambet Konuspayev represented the country at the conference titled “Central Asia – the Core of the SCO: A Space of Peace and Shared Development.”
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Tajikistan, and the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Centre in Tajikistan.
Central Asia’s Growing Importance in Eurasia
The conference brought together Deputy Foreign Ministers from Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives of major international organizations.
Participants included officials from:
- The CIS
- The CSTO
- ESCAP
- UNESCO
- CICA
- ECO
In his opening remarks, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin highlighted the region’s rapid development and increasing international significance.
According to him, Central Asia has become one of the most dynamically developing regions of Eurasia and now plays a key role in shaping the future of the SCO.

Kazakhstan Reaffirms Support for the SCO
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Yermukhambet Konuspayev emphasized the important role Central Asian countries have played in the Organization since the beginning of the “Shanghai Process.”
He noted that the countries of the region were among the SCO’s active founding members and continue to contribute significantly to its development.
Konuspayev also stressed that Kazakhstan places special importance on strengthening the SCO as a platform for equal, mutually beneficial, and practical cooperation among member states.
Security, Stability and Regional Cooperation
Virtually all participants highlighted the SCO’s growing influence in maintaining security and stability across Eurasia.
Speakers noted that the Organization has earned its place among the world’s most authoritative and influential regional and international institutions.
Particular attention was given to the role of Central Asian countries in:
- Strengthening regional stability
- Promoting mutual trust
- Encouraging good-neighbourly relations
- Advancing equal partnership among member states
- Supporting the continued development of the SCO
Participants agreed that cooperation among regional countries remains one of the key factors behind the Organization’s success and resilience.
Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Discuss Future Cooperation
On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Konuspayev held a bilateral meeting with Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Nigina Alizoda.
The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in several areas.
Among the topics discussed were:
- Political cooperation
- Trade and economic ties
- Investment projects
- Cultural exchanges
- Humanitarian cooperation
The diplomats also reviewed the schedule of upcoming bilateral events and preparations for future meetings at the highest and high levels.
In addition, they exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
