The legal foundations of Kazakhstan-Türkiye relations are getting another upgrade, DKNews.kz reports.

Senior officials from the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Türkiye met in Ankara to discuss the future of bilateral legal cooperation, signaling both countries' intention to deepen coordination on international and regional issues.

The consultations brought together Dastan Suleimenov, Director of the International Law Department of Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, and Firat Sunel, Director General of the Department of International Law and Treaties at Türkiye's Foreign Ministry.

Focus on stronger agreements

During the talks, the sides reviewed the current treaty framework governing bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen it.

While such meetings often take place away from the public spotlight, they serve as the legal backbone for cooperation in areas ranging from trade and investment to diplomacy and regional initiatives.

Officials explored opportunities to modernize and expand the legal basis of Kazakhstan-Türkiye cooperation as relations between the two countries continue to grow.

International law and regional cooperation

The discussions also covered legal aspects of cooperation within international and regional organizations.

Representatives exchanged views on current developments in international law and discussed issues affecting the broader international agenda.

The consultations reflected the increasing importance of legal diplomacy as countries navigate a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

Why this matters

Kazakhstan and Türkiye have significantly expanded cooperation in recent years, strengthening ties in politics, transport, trade, energy and regional connectivity.

Behind every major interstate initiative stands a network of legal agreements that makes cooperation possible.

The latest consultations demonstrate that Astana and Ankara are not only deepening political dialogue but also reinforcing the legal framework needed to support long-term strategic partnership.

What's next?

The meeting concluded in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides confirming their interest in closer cooperation between the legal departments of their foreign ministries.

The next round of consultations will take place in Kazakhstan.
